From November 22 to 30, 2025, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) returns for its 17th edition, bringing together communities, businesses, and organizations across Europe and beyond to promote sustainable resource and waste management.
This year’s campaign puts the spotlight on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) — one of the fastest-growing and most challenging waste streams globally. From smartphones and laptops to refrigerators and washing machines, electronic waste contains valuable materials such as rare metals, copper, and plastics that can be recovered and reintroduced into the production cycle through proper collection, treatment, and recycling.
The EWWR promotes action based on the waste hierarchy: Reduce consumption, Reuse products and materials, and Recycle waste responsibly. By extending the lifespan of electronic equipment through repair, refurbishment, and reuse, we can significantly reduce environmental impact, conserve critical raw materials, and move toward a truly circular economy.
With thousands of actions registered across over 30 countries, the EWWR demonstrates that collective commitment makes a real difference. This year’s message is clear: turn on the value, turn off the waste.
